Resumen

Los síndromes geriátricos son una condición no clínica del adulto mayor caracterizada por múltiples causas que abarca un grupo de signos y síntomas que ocurren juntos de manera variable y que usualmente presentan una causa multifactorial y de fondo heterogéneo. La detección y diagnósticos de ellos puede ayudar a disminuir el deterioro funcional y la pérdida de independencia que conllevan en el adulto mayor. Además, permitirá plantear estrategias y acciones prioritarias para lograr un envejecimiento saludable a fin de proporcionar una mejor calidad de vida.  Debido a la alta prevalencia y aumento en la población de adultos mayores a nivel mundial, en esta revisión de tema se hará énfasis en la epidemiología, etiología, características clínicas, diagnóstico, prevención y manejo de distintos síndromes geriátricos con el objetivo de proporcionar información útil para el diagnóstico oportuno y eficaz, así como el tratamiento de los mismos enfocado principalmente en caídas, incontinencia y deterioro cognitivo.
