Abstract

Introduction: Pulmonary hernia is the protrusion of the lung parenchyma through a defect in the chest wall. They can be classified as cervical, diaphragmatic, thoracic or intercostal. Case report: A 46-year-old male patient, obese, with a mass in the subscapular region of + -10 cm, protruding from the valsalva. A Thorax CT was performed, which showed a pulmonary hernia, protruding through the 6th right intercostal space. An anterior right thoracotomy approach was performed. A thoracoplasty was performed using a polypropylene mesh. Discussion: Spontaneous hernias are associated with an increase in intrathoracic pressure. The thoracic CT scan in addition to confirming the diagnosis, allows to evaluate the size and location of the defect. The surgical techniques used include primary closure or the realization of hernioplasty with synthetic material.
