Abstract

Strabismus, a condition characterized by the misalignment of the eyes affecting normal visual parallelism, presents various manifestations, whether unilateral or bilateral, in horizontal and vertical planes. This review addresses different types of strabismus, providing specific nomenclature for classification based on the side of deviation and the intermittency of the clinical picture. Diagnosis, primarily clinical, relies on office tests such as corneal reflex and simple or alternate occlusion. In terms of treatment, variability is highlighted depending on the underlying cause, ranging from medical interventions with corrective glasses, patches, and even atropine drops. Additionally, a surgical approach is considered when it is necessary to modify the anatomy of extraocular muscles. This comprehensive review offers a broad view of the various facets of strabismus in children, addressing both diagnosis and available therapeutic options.
