Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of global mortality, accounting for approximately 17.7 million of the estimated 55 million deaths annually. Understanding the distribution of cardiovascular risk factors in rural contexts is essential for guiding effective preventive strategies. Objective: To identify diseases associated with cardiovascular risk, estimate their frequency, and analyze trends in a rural population based on clinical, demographic, and healthcare-related variables. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted using clinical records of patients from rural areas in Colombia. Sociodemographic, clinical, and healthcare access data were collected to characterize the cardiovascular risk profile. Results: Hypertension was the most prevalent comorbidity, followed by other cardiovascular risk conditions. Active participation of nursing personnel in patient management was observed, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in primary care. Conclusions: Hypertension control is a priority for reducing cardiovascular disease burden in rural settings. Strengthening primary healthcare and implementing context-specific preventive strategies are strongly recommended.
